FCG Awarded Another ABC Excellence in Construction Award for the 28K Square Foot AAON Exploration Center in Tulsa
We’re excited to announce that we are 2023 recipients of the ABC Excellence in Construction Award for the Industrial $5-$15M category. At 28,000 square feet, the winning project is the crown jewel of AAON’s global headquarters, and a prime example of Fleming’s capability and versatility as builders.
The multi-story mixed-use building utilizes structural concrete – a decision made to honor the client’s desire for a modern-industrial aesthetic, while still respecting completion goals and timelines during a period of major supply chain disruption and steel shortages. The north and east elevations are wrapped in a two-story storefront glazing system that bathes the interior lobby, reception and kitchenette/coffee bar in natural daylight. Finally, leveraging renewable geothermal energy, LEDs with controls, abundant building envelope insulation assemblies, and rooftop solar arrays, the facility is a Net Zero energy consumer.
“With the design and building phase taking place during peak post-covid supply chain constraints, and confronted with site delays including high pressure gas lines and an abandoned oil pipeline, we had our work cut out for us,” said Fleming Founding Partner, John Gilbertson. “But our team was nimble, creative, and dedicated to getting the job done on time, on budget, and with no safety issues – and that’s exactly what we did.”
We were presented with the award at the ABC Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala. Accepting the award on FCG’s behalf were Austin Embry, Jeff McGee and his wife Tammy McGee, Fleming Senior Project Manager Nick Brim and his wife Casie, Superintendent Jake Nolan and his wife Haley, and Fleming’s EVP and Founding Member John Gilbertson.
Our membership in ABC Oklahoma began when Ray Miller, Jr. signed its initial charter and continues through to today. Thank you to Chairman John Smaligo, and EVP Sally Singer for putting on another wonderful evening with our peer members.

Through their hard work and expertise, this project was completed on-time, within budget and without interruption to daily operations in the R&D facility.
